Peacefully sited in the Cothi Valley, Ollie the Mongolian ger is the perfect hideaway where you can blur the boundaries between the hustle and bustle of everyday life and the natural world. Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of nature and unwind in the beautiful surroundings of the undiscovered gem that is Camarthanshire. Ollie will suit families, explorers on two legs or two wheels as well as those who just want to relax in a retreat with a difference.
This holistic site, which keeps nature very much at its heart is home to Ollie the traditional Mongolian ger. Lovingly handcrafted from sustainably and locally sourced wood, Ollie offers you everything you could want for a relaxing getaway.
Inside you will find a comfortable double bed that will be fully made up for you on arrival. There is also a day bed which is the perfect place to curl up with a book and in the evening will quickly and easily convert to two full-sized single beds. Even better, both the double bed and the day bed are dressed with blankets and cushions woven from the fleece of your “host”, Ollie. A complimentary basket of logs and kindling will be left for you ready to stoke up the wood burning stove should the weather turn a little cooler. In the evening, snuggle up outside with an “Ollie blanket” and take advantage of the fabulous dark skies to indulge in a spot of star-gazing. Alternatively, stay warm and cosy inside and marvel at the universe through the spectacular crown skylight. A mini-kitchen area houses a camp cooker with kettle, pots, pans and everything you need to rustle up a simple meal. There is also a state-of-the-art cool box with ice packs that will keep foods cool for up to 72 hours.
Outside, the Indian kadai firebowl and the picnic table with bench seating are a fabulous sociable space where you can chill out while someone else does the cooking. The firebowl is big enough to cook for 10 people, so if a group of you have booked, communal dining isn’t a problem. The herbs generously planted around the ger are readily available for you to add flair and flavour to your culinary masterpieces.
The wide meadow area in front of the ger has been eco-sensitively managed to encourage wildlife and butterflies. Paths are mown through it while the rest is left to grow untamed and this gently undulating grass sea comes alive in summer with the hum of bees and insects. The paths lead down towards the play area near the river (which is securely and safely fenced off with stock-proof fencing and rabbit wire). This perfect space for children is far enough away for them to feel some independence, but located to ensure you can keep a watchful eye on your little ones. There’s even a selection of toys to keep them entertained, should they tire of bug-spotting or adventuring.
In the fabulous facilities block, you’ll find a kitchenette with shared fridge and freezer, a microwave and kettle and complimentary tea, coffee and sugar, plus a sink with hot and cold running water where you can do your washing-up. There is a private bathroom for the yurt, this includes; a shower, basin and flushing WC. There is also an additional flushing WC. For those late-night visits, there are two additional state-of-the-art waterless WCs located near the gers, with solar powered battery lighting – the access paths are lit as you approach.
